2007 Oscar Predictions

I made a slight adjustment to my predictions. I’ve gotten a lot of flack from a few people in regards to said predictions, specifically my pick of Little Miss Sunshine for best picture. I stand by this. Allow me to indulge you for a moment.

If you eliminate the pictures that are long shots you are left with only two possible choices. The Queen and Letters from Iwo Jima won’t win, they just won’t; and Babel is to much like last year’s winner, Crash. That leaves only Little Miss Sunshine and The Departed. The Academy shares a collective mind and I think they want some lighter fare to win this year. The Departed will get its acknowledgment when Martin Scorsese wins best director. There isn’t one stand out film this year that is going to sweep all of the awards so the Academy is going to spread the love.

Now, on to my one prediction alteration. I changed my best supporting actress pick from Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine) to Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls). Little Miss Sunshine will only win one award Sunday night - best picture. If for some reason I am wrong and it doesn’t win, look for Abigail to pick up the supporting actress statue. The Academy loves kids (hello, Anna Paquin) but by awarding Little Miss Sunshine best picture that will take care of everyone in the film, including little Abigail. It’s really quite simple.

If I’m wrong, I’ll make out with Rosie O’Donnell.

The following are my predictions for the winners of the 79th Academy Awards. These are my choices of who i THINK will win, not who I WANT to win. Frankly I’m disappointed with the majority of the nominations. I am in no way an expert but if I was placing money on the winners, which I am not, then this is where I’d place my bets. I did not make predictions for the short film, animated short film, or documentary short film categories. The Coolidge is currently showing the animated short nominees so I’m gonna try to catch them before they go.

No Oscar party. I have too much homework to do. I’m not really into watching the awards that much anymore. I used to be.

I could not disagree more about some of your predictions… Picture - Little Miss Sunshine; are you kidding?

I’m serious. I don’t agree with my predictions either, but I think I know who is going to win.
