Variety confirmed this morning a rumor that has been circling online for a few days now: Katie Holmes is out and Maggie Gyllenhaal is in as Rachel Dawes in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. Personally I think this is fantastic. Holmes was the weakest link in Batman Begins. Having met her in real life (she once came into Restaurant L) I can honestly say that Maggie is damn adorable.
It was already announced many, many months ago that Heath Ledger will be playing The Joker. Recently word came out that Aaron Eckhart will be playing Gothom district attorney Harvey Dent. This can only mean one thing people: that Eckhart will play Two-Face in the third Batman film. Two-Face is my all-time favorite Batman villain. Batman Forever really dropped the ball on Two-Face. Tommy Lee Jones wasn’t a bad choice, per se, but he could only do so much with a lackluster script and an even lackluster director. Plus he had to stand in the shadow of Jim Carrey’s scene-stealing Riddler. Hopefully Nolan won’t pull and a Burton and will stay on to direct the third film.
