Mrs. Stark

Ryan’s fourth grade teacher at Wedgewood Elementary.

Mrs. Stark was Ryan’s least favorite teacher at Wedgewood. Mostly because he feels she did not like him very much. Mrs. Stark was the kind of teacher who knew which students didn’t do his or her homework. She would call on said students. Sometimes this was Ryan. Perhaps Mrs. Stark’s biggest problem with Ryan was the way he stood. She would constantly tell Ryan to stop standing the way he was, which was with his feet pointing outward, like a duck. This made Ryan feel like a freak.

One day during arts and crafts, Ryan painted a picture of Christopher Columbus sailing to america on a boat. Ryan painted “America” across the piece of land the boat was sailing towards so that people would know. Mrs. Stark told him that this was stupid. When it came time for the annual art fair, where each student submitted a piece of art for judging, Ryan was out sick with the flu. Mrs. Stark submitted Ryan’s Columbus painting for him but had cut off the land-mass labeled “America.” Ryan subsequently one second place in this art contest.
