McCain Will Tax You More
The most misleading phrase of the decade has to be “straight talk express.” As this Time Magazine piece explores, John McCain has deviated from what once made him The Maverick®. He gets snippy with the interviewer and adamantly refuses to define Honor.
But something that’s even more misleading than the maverick myth has fallen off the back of the Straight Talk Express: the lie that John McCain will lower your taxes and that Barack Obama will raise your taxes. The TRUTH is quite the contrary. You will pay more taxes under President McCain than President Obama. McCain will cut taxes more but mostly for the rich (over $100,000). Obama will raise taxes for the rich and lower taxes for the rest.

For families making between $111,645 and $226,891, Obama’s cuts are smaller than McCain’s, but comparable. Above that amount, you’re getting into the top 1% - 3% of the population. And Obama will, yes, raise taxes on those fortunate few while McCain gives them huge cuts disproportionate to the minuscule cuts he gives lower down the scale.
So, the Paris Hiltons, Katie Courics, and Bill O’Reillys of the world are going to have to start paying more. But cops, schoolteachers, factory workers, and average business folk are gonna pay a lot less if the good guy wins.
Most importantly, though, think of it in terms of character. John McCain, if elected, will give himself and the beer heiress wife with whom he cheated on his first wife and whose fortune helped launch his political career, a huge tax cut. Barack Obama will actually significantly raise his own taxes in order to help out those less fortunate than he.
