24: The Usual Suspects

Someone is behind the day’s events, but who? Here is my list of usual suspects with odds.
[The odds in no way have mathematical reasoning, I just kind of made it up.]

Wayne Palmer
If Wayne were in any way involved with the events of the day, then the only reason would be that he was hittin’ that (Sherry Palmer) and wanted to avenge Sherry by destroying David.
odds: 2%

Vice President Hal Gardner
Gardner has been suspicious since arriving, but I personally think its just misdirection. Maybe he’s a good guy after all.
odds: 12%

Secretary of Defense James Heller
Heller was pivotal at the beginning of day 4, but after that the writers didn’t have much for him to do. Several people have dropped his name this season indicating that he can’t be too far away from LA. I said since last season that I thought Heller was bad, but since the Audrey mess last week I’m starting to suspect someone else. Heller could be involved, but I think it is more likely that he will be important in flushing out the real mastermind.
odds: 30%

Mike Novick
We don’t trust Mike because he has betrayed us before. His shifty Magoo-eyes don’t help his case either. But I think Mike is important to both the sides, whether he realizes it or not. If Mike were bad, we’d all be fools for trusting him again. I think Mike is still around to redeem himself to David Palmer. Or maybe Mike was hittin’ that (Sherry Palmer) and her spirit is controlling him.
odds: 10%

First Lady Martha Logan
Sure Martha is a little coo coo for Coco Puffs, but she has some of her marbles together. She has had probably the roughest day of anyone and she’s been learning things about her hubby that make her wanna jump on Secret Service Agent Aaron Pierce. Martha is not Sherry Palmer, she’s the craxy opposite.
odds: 1%

The Russians
I don’t think the Russians are involved in the terrorist plot at all, but I would love to see them find out Logan sold them out and start some shit.
odds: 3%

The Chinese
It would be fantastic if the Chinese were behind the events of the day, but I think the writers probably forgot about that interesting subplot from last season. Although, die-hard fans like myself would go nuts if they tied up that loose string.
odds: 25%

President Charles Logan
For Logan to be the mastermind he would have had to manipulate everyone, including Walt Cummins (although that probably wouldn’t be too hard). How could a bumbling imbecile be such an evil genius? Is that even possible? Yes. It is.
WHA!?!?!?!?

I re-watched a few episodes the other night from a new point of view. This time I watched as if Logan was in charge of everything and you know what? It is abundantly clear that Logan is in complete control. The best evidence I can offer to my theory is this clip from episode 12 (6:00PM - 7:00 PM).

About 20 seconds in Logan and Mike get the call about Jack tracking down Christopher Henderson. Watch Logan’s face. Listen to his voice. His reaction is a sign of worry. Whoever Henderson is working for is working for Logan. Logan does not want Henderson talking to Jack.

Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait Ryan. You have gone mad! Your conspiracy theories have become as absurd as you. Or have they?

Logan is no David Palmer. The people loved Palmer and Logan is everything Palmer is not. Palmer was elected by the people and has a legacy that makes him one of the greatest Presidents (albeit fictional) in history. Logan got the job because the extra from day 3 won the election after Palmer didn’t seek re-election. The people didn’t elect Logan. He has no legacy. That’s why he needed the Russian treaty signing so that he would have something to be remembered by. Then he fucked that up. Logan is manipulating a legacy for himself. Since everyone else is dead, Logan is the obvious choice.

WTF? Wait. Ryan!? Logan? LOGAN? Charles Logan? He’s an imbecile! He can’t make a decision for himself! This is outrageous! How could you say Logan is the mastermind behind all of this terror? Logan is a simpleton who has been twiddling his thumbs since he became President at the end of last season. He probably can’t even tie his shoe without Martha’s help. Charles Logan is as incompetent and incapable of masterminding such a devious plan as Verbal Kint.

They kind of look alike too…
Verbal Kint & Charles Logan
