Battlestar Galactica: “Maelstrom”
I don’t sing the praises Battlestar Galactica enough. Most weeks I do a 24 Talkback but BSG gets no love on Megorious. Well baby, that changes tonight.
Satchel got me hooked on BSG about six months ago. Now every week I patiently await the next installment. During Xmas break I got Chrissy Perkins hooked. It is without a doubt the most relevant and preeminently executed show on television. For those who mock me and others like me for watching this show: don’t knock it until you’ve tried it, bitches.
Last week’s episode, about the struggles of class in a time of war, was a nice up tick from the two previous weak filler episodes. Chief Tyrol and Cally have branched out to be two of the most fascinating characters on BSG. The Chief was always interesting but up until recently Cally was just always there. That has since changed since over the course of this season we’ve really seen what kind influence she has over the Chief. Is it because she’s a Cylon bitch? Mayhaps she is. Mayhaps she isn’t.
A few months ago executive producer Ronald D. Moore said the following about “Maelstrom” to the Chicago Tribune:
It’s a fundamental and permanent change in the makeup of the show’s cast and of the show itself and how the show operates and what the show is about. It’s a very dramatic change of direction.
There are five Cylon models who we haven’t seen yet. If all five are characters we’ve already met then who are they? My top pick would be Roslin, she’s really changed since the show began and her whole subtle wooing of Adama seems like Cylon behavior to me. As I stated earlier, Cally could easily be a Cylon but the fact that she and the Chief have a child casts doubts in my mind. For a while I thought Starbuck might be a Cylon but I’ve since backed away from that, even though she’s apparently been doodling the Eye of Jupiter since she was a kid. And poor, poor Gaius Baltar. He’s no Cylon. He just wishes he was.
Battlestar Galactica has been picked up for a fourth season though only 13 episodes will be produced. All this means is that we’ll get more story and less filler. Bring on the “Maelstrom.”
