Fall Premiere Week - Monday

Tonight marks the official start of the new fall TV season. However three of my favorite shows (24, LOST, Battlestar Galactica) won’t return until early next year.

There’s not much on tonight that requires watching, like CBS’ not so funny “comedy” lineup and ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. NBC has Heroes and though I’m going to tune in, I’m highly skeptical.

The fate of several characters was left unanswered at the end of last season. But if you’ve seen any advertisements, you’d know that they’re all returning. That’s my first problem. There seems to be nothing at stake. They only seem to kill off the supporting guest stars, which is usually a given. I’m not suggesting they go the 24 route and kill-off everyone, but the cast is overpopulated and several characters, like Nicki/Jessica, really need to go.

Heroes pulled me in early last year and I really got into. There were some great episodes during the middle of the season, but the two long hiatuses and the weak finish left a bad taste in my mouth. The sophomore season is always the toughest. Heroes, having already lost its most talented writer, Bryan Fuller, who left to create the most talked about new show of the fall, ABC’s Pushing Daises, really needs to step up.

Also tonight, NBC debuts two new hour-longs: Chuck, which has garnered some praise, and Journeyman, which has not.

Hey, bite your tongue. “How I Met Your Mother” is pretty funny. To wit:

Otherwise, even though 24 doesn’t premiere for awhile, I will decide tonight if I’m going to watch it anymore. Heroes didn’t consistently hook me last season, but if it’s even a little compelling tonight, I’ll stick with it and shun Kiefer for good.

Last season, I was prevented from giving Heroes the attention it required because of the 24 time conflict. And all I got in return was a big pile of crap.

    24 no more!

In the future I shall exclude “How I Met Your Mother” from my bulk generalization of CBS’ Monday night lineup. The other show, the one with David Spade, makes me want to throw up in my own mouth.

Oops. Missed Heroes. Forgot the Saints were playing tonight.

    That was time well spent.
